Talking Training weekend went very well

Some of you may have read chick and Dizzy were off to 2 competitions this weekend. Jumping equitation and showjumping.

Since chick has never competed in equitation and Dizzy hasn't seen too many showjumps we were looking it at as a training exercise only.

Saturday Dizzy did really well. The competition is judged by 2 judges each ring and 2 rounds in 2 different rings. Each round is judged seperately with an individual placing. To get overall winners scores are combined from both rings. It is judged mostly on the riders ability, style then the horse.

There were 9 in the class. It isn't great heights only 70cm (2'4) for her age group. The marking for it is similar to dressage scoring on a basis of 1 - 10. Dizzy took it all in his stride, no refusals, no run outs. Chick got a couple of 8's, lots of 7's and the rest was 6's on her score sheet.

Round one they got a 4th. Round 2 they got third. Ended up with an overall third. Another trophy for the already very overcrowded shelf.

Today was showjumping. They are still competing unofficial in this as Dizzy needs more exposure before going official. The fact he has never done a showjumping comp before is another one.

Since he had no trouble with the heights yesterday I nominated them for the higher jumps. 80-90 cm (2'8 - 3'). They have never jumped a course of 3 foot jumps before but there always has to be a first doesn't there? Any way, as far as we were concerned it was a training exercise.

First round of jumping was AM5, clear round goes to the next round on time. Chick pulled a rail and had one run out at a scary jump. They still placed 5th with 8 faults. Second round was grandprix, first round clears go into the second round, then those still clear go to the third. Chick went to the second round with 3 others including one 4 faulter, not her. None of them got clear in the second round and chick ended up 2nd.

The last round was power and speed. First 8 jumps clear then the next 5 at speed. If you fault in the first 8 you don't finish the course. Chick was the only person to do a clear round. They got first place. The girl before her crashed her horse badly into a jump bringing jump, horse and herself down. Not what I want to see right before chick enters the ring.

Not bad considering she was the youngest in the class, the course was very tight and technical, it was the highest jump round for her class for the day (all jumps built to the 3' allowed) and her competitors were mostly A & B grade jumpers on their second horses. I really was proud of them. So were a lot of others.

So for their training session today they left with 2nd place overall and another medal.

There are pics, in POST 6. A couple of other people took some nice pics that they will email to me so will post those when I get them.
