There are a few of us on the forum that have Mustangs. I have a 3 yr old gelding , Poncho, that I adopted from the BLM Lynden, WA acution May 22, 2004 and he's finally to the point we can brush him, lead him around a bit, get the saddle on him, strating to work on picking up feet as well. He's NOT been successfully ridden YET but we're getting closer and closer. He's definately been a challenge and I'm working with an experienced Mustang and PMU Mare trainer, so that's really helped us out tremendously as well.

I see you're from Oregon, my Mustang is from the Paisley, OR herd out of Lakeview, OR, high desert country! Where's you Mustang originally from and how did you aquire him? Welcome to the forum and I'm sure you'll get tired of Mustang Poncho updates, LOL... I'll love to hear about your guy as well!

Dawn, one of the great moderators here, also has a Mustang named Reno, that she's making great progress with as well. I'm not sure which herd Reno originated out of, but Dawn's worked miracles with that girls health and development!

Reno is from Nevada. The Black Hills herd I believe, but I could be wrong on that. My experience was a little different as Reno was adopted by a friend of mine. After the year was up, she gave her to me. So she was used to humans, had been messed with a little, but wasn't halter broke or anything like that.

We'd love to see pictures of your mustang.

hi. i got my mustang in april 2002. he is about 3 now. his name is cisco and he is a gelding. at the auction i got him at there was only like 60 horses-more or less. and it was hard to choose. first i wanted a mare but realised that they could be pregnant and i heard that when they have a baby they can be aggressive so i went with the geldings. i saw this beautiful strawberry roan that i wanted and there were qa few others but when it came to price he went too high. cisco when you looked into his eyes i just knew. when i first got him i wasnt sure what i should do, i was only 12 at the time and i had never trained a horse before. any ways i was out there in his pen as often as i could be but being 12 i wasnt very responsible yet. but i went out there and talked to him and i would just stand out there until he got use to me and knew that i woulnt hurt him. then we bought sugar cubes. at first i would just lay them on the ground so that he had to come closer to me to get them. the gradually he was eating out of me hand. and it went great from there. he is so trustworthy now. i cant beleive how far we came. i started taking him to a trainers where i would still be doing the work but she could tell me how to do it. and in july we went to a 4-h show. (my mom said that if i got another horse i would have to join 4-h, which is fun) we got a red in showmanship-1 point away from a blue! and well in walk trot we got a white because he wanted to go back to line. the wierd thing is that when we practice at my lessons or any place else he didnt do that but oh well at least we did it! right now i am in arizona visiting my dad so i cant post a pic. of him yet but when i get home i will. so that is my story up until now and i will be sure to keep you posted.

I'll have to try to see if I can find info on that herd, COOL! YOu can post photos of him right on to this sight... First hit REPLY to Thread... then scroll down to the section that says ADDITIONAL OPTIONS, then click on MANAGE FILES... Then Click on BROWSE and it will let you upload a jpeg photo file from your computer! Hope that makes sense. Looking forward to seeing your boy.
