WOW... the team ropers and contesters up her saddle their horses and haul like that around here. Never thought that dangerous, I have never done it... but I guess it is. The only thing I can think of is these people have stock trailers, they tie their horses in the corner of the box stall... no one ever puts them in a slant load like that, they have enough room. AND never with bridles. Bridles are a different story, that is just plain stupid, they are lucky they didn't tie the horses with the bridle... I just went up to read... they did.... now that is HORRIBLE. Poor pony! That is horrible.... so sad!!!! At least the vet was there. Oh poor things!

Some of the people I ride with trailer with the saddles on but use a halter and trailer tie. They don't have tack rooms in their trailer and are ususally in a hurry. I'd thorw the saddles in the bed of the truck if I were them. When we get where we are going I have to take both horses off and tack up. While I'm doing that, they are riding close by and sometimes it makes my horses a bit jumpy. Mine don't want to get left behind. I'm not too patient with these folks and tell them if they will please be still for a few minutes, we can all ride together. After the ride, they load up. I stay put, let my horses dry out a little while I take on a few liquids. Sometimes they leave me and sometimes they wait. Either way, I still make it home. I also wash my horses and trailer before I'm done with the ride. I park the trailer beside my garden to shovel out the "big stuff."

GUESS WHAT? I just got a call. OMG. Course they are needing some halters to take them home, and of course everyone told them to contact me, I always have extras. My other friend got the halters and HOPEFULLY they will return them. Never know when I need them. Like today!! Didn't cross my mind before I left. Course I thought they might HAVE halters at least with them. Though the one has to be tied only around his neck (vet's orders). Better than nothing I guess.

BW, just IMAGINE the vet bill. Plus the cost to replace all their broken tack, and it sounds like there's possibly a chance at damage to the trailer. My trainer trailered some horses with saddles and halters to go to a church reinaction of Christmas. "The Living Christmas Story". Nothing happened, but it was only a 10 minute ride.

Like QHGirl I see a lot of ropers, barrel racers, etc haul their horses already saddled but ONLY in stock trailers and they are not slant loaded. I try for the most part to keep away from negative or degrading comments on here but I just have to say this... tying a horse up by the reins is just plain dumb and dangerous. I hate it when I see people doing that at the shows and I can't help but think... "what idiots, how hard is it to put on a halter." LOL... I'm off my short soapbox and sorry if anyone finds it rude or offensive.

Not rude or offensive here. I've thrown my reins over the fence to run to the rest room. But not to trailer. And never in an area I don't know. Only in my own arena.

Near my moms house(were moving soon) Theres this Mexican food place, every weekend there is a 3 slant load with 3 fully saddled and bridled horses in it! While the people are eating, these poor horses just sit in the trailer! GRRRRR I hate to drive up and see it! There in town too!

I've seen horses in a 2 horse regular side by side trailer, SADDLED. Horses are like SQUISHED in. Those are the ones I just want to run off the road and beat the snot out of.

And unfortunately, these situations aren't "abusive" and until the horse is hurt, they cannot do anything (humane society) Standing in a trailer while people eat, I admit, I've done it. My horses are resting quietly in the trailer while we are stretching our legs and grabbing something to eat. We also find some shade to park the trailer under, just to help out since it does get hot around here.
