Trace Clipping....the aftermath of blanketing....

So I am going to give my horse a medium trace clip. he is going to be in meduim work all winter and is already getting wayyy too hot and sweaty. When I do cliip him do i need to keep a hood on him? We live in Canada and the temperatures are normal seasonal right now. He comes in the barn at night and is out all day, brought in early most yucky days. He is only in a rainsheet right now. When I do clip him what weight of blanket should I get for him? I pretty much don't have a clue!!! help!!!!!!

Thanks!!!!

I don't know about the weight of blanket, but definitely keep a hood on him.

I live in canada and give my horses full body clips in the winter and I don't think I have ever owned a blanket with a hood. Mine are out in the day, inside at night

I'm just south of you, in the foothills east of Seattle. We trace clip our mares, and blanket, but no hoods. I haven't had a problem without one, but I don't clip super high on my girls' necks--two handsbreath on both sides?

I don't know how cold it gets up north...but when I traced clipped my old mare, I had a rain sheet on her under 45F. I had a fleece sheet that I would put on her if it got below 25F. She was out in a paddock all winter. I only used a slinky over her face and neck if it was dry and really cold out.
