Towelling foal down

Just wondering...I have been watching some of the births on Marestare.com and all of the births I have seen the owners come in as soon as the foal is born and towel the foal down. I was just wondering why they do this? Is it for bonding or cause its cold or some other reason?
I have not seen that done here in Australia (which is not to say it doesnt happen) just wondering why?

Most likely cold. I know some have had below freezing temps and some below zero temps. Also foals are not exactly the strongest sticks in the bunch. Keeping them from being cold or wet probably wold help them.

I towel dry all of mine, along with wipe out nose and mouth. I do it to dry them off and the rubbing helps gets them breathing good and moving around.

Not to mention getting your hands on the foal will make it easier to check for injuries, abnormalities... anything that's "not quite right".

Besides the cold in some parts of the country at this time of the year, as what was already mentioned, it does help the foal...I like to see them put the foal near it's dam's head, so she can also lick and sniff the foal...and bond...
