| Senior Member+ | I wasn't saying that your horse wasn't properly trained because of what happened last night. But rather because you admit having to handle her daily in a stud chain. Last night was an accident, pure and simple. One that might have been able to be avoided if the proper work had been done before ever even thinking of loading her into a trailer. |

| Senior Member+ | Actually. I dont ahndle her on a stud chain on a daily basis. So you can stop that. I lunge her in a stud chain and I loaded her in a stud chain. No harm done. You really need to get the facts straight. *Comment edited by mod. Re: Rep Talk*. I am not doing ne thing. you are the one putting me down. We loaded rayven before in that trailer and she did fine. If you read some of my other posts, thats what it says. She was shown extensively last year IN A TRAILER. She knows how to load. Its not a big deal, we didnt think, but apparently she must think its scary. so yes we are going to be working with her on it! STOP putting me down and my horse down! She is trained and you had NO right to say that.

Second, you need to calm down. You are getting upset and overly defensive as well as offensive for no reason. The way you worded your post also made me believe that you needed the stud chain to lead her. Yelling about Dawn not knowing you or your horse or family makes you seem very immature. So take a breather and try to be calm and rational when you read this thread. The fact of the matter is Reyven is not properly trained for the trailer if she is acting up. You said yourself that you practiced loading her before and had trouble and had to get your trainer (? or barn owner or someone) to load her. So you had this problem before, its not a new one. Just because a horse goes in one trailer doesn't mean they will go in every trailer. I personally practice loading mine in a couple different types (my trainer has a few different trailers as well as some friends trailers). This way when I can't use our trailer for some reason, my three will always hop right into any trailer. What you need to do is work with her. I would not use the stud chain personally. No one is putting you or your horse down. My mare is afraid of water, she won't go through it, I haven't worked on it with her yet. So yes she is not properly fully trained for water crossing yet. But is any horse ever fully trained? Theres always more you can teach them. But the basics of ground handling, as in grooming, vet, farrier, bathing, and trailering, is something very important to teach all horses.

| Senior Member+ | I am not saying that you need to do different types of trailer, just saying what I do. I am simply saying you should get her down pat in your trailer before you need to actually get her in for a show. It seems to me that this shouldn't have been unexpected seeing as you had problems the one other time you loaded her in the new trailer. But seeing as you are just being rude and defensive now I will quit trying to help. Good luck at your next show. |

Anyway, it caught my eye when you mentioned that she needed to learn about the "big blue trailer". Is the interior painted a dark color? I recently bought a new trailer and all of the sudden my TB filly was refusing to load. Didn't make sense to me as the new trailer is almost identical to the old - only larger. Then I had an idea: the interior of the new trailer was painted gray where as the old trailer was white inside. I had the interior repainted white and lo and behold, no more refusals! I believe she found the dark interior scary. I'm not saying you need to repaint your trailer, I did, but for several reasons not just the filly refusing. But I wanted to mention just to give you another angle to consider. Good luck. IMO, refusing to load in a trailer is just about one of the most frustrating training issues to deal with. Keep the patience! |
