| Senior Member | Tobiano or Tovero? *new pics* Hi, i have a 3 month old foal that I need to register soon. The mare is a solid bay Quarter Horse and the stud is registered tobiano but the breeder now thinks he may be tovero. The other babies born from the same stud have some tovero charecteristics. I was wondering if you could help me out. I will include pics from when she was little. She has a tobiano face but alot of white. So i don't know. I've had people tell me both things! Thanks for your help. Last edited by Daisy6055; 06-22-2005 at 05:02 PM. Reason: Adding new pics! |

| Senior Member+ | I would say tobiano, She has the Toby colored head, the chest shield, flank spots, white legs, two-colored tail...... definately a Tobiano. To be a tovero it has to have both tobiano and overo characteristics... all I see are tobiano... sure she's a very white one. .... here is the APHA description of a Tobiano .... The dark color usually covers one or both flanks. Generally, all four legs are white, at least below the hocks and knees. Generally, the spots are regular and distinct as ovals or round patterns that extend down over the neck and chest, giving the appearance of a shield. Head markings are like those of a solid-colored horse--solid, or with a blaze, strip, star or snip. A tobiano may be either predominantly dark or white. The tail is often two colors. See this Tovero has the spots like a Tobiano, the white legs like one, but the face of an overo...

| Senior Member | Thanks, the only thing I wonder about is she has white under her chin running up to under her jowls. That I don't think is a toby charecteristic. I will try to get a pic. She also has color some on her belly and in between her flanks. I dunno I guess I will just have to flip a coin or something. |

| Senior Member+ | she may not be tovero but she has more than tobiano, a true tobiano will not have any white on the face
