Well if Overo is an option, that's just a summary term for Sabino and Frame and Splash, so what then?

I understand you don't make the rules

Who's to decide if a horse is a sabino or a splash? There's a LOT of things that need to change with the registries. Sabino is one of the biggest ones. Call (or mail) APHA and ask them how they can register Conclusions Playboy as a Red Roan and don't drink anything when you're listening or reading their answer. You'll get "because it's the most dominate "color". And that's where I start shaking my head. But yet they'll make someone re-classify their buckskin to a dun because he throws duns. Our registration papers will have to go to landscape though if we can register with multiple patterns though

LOL, it's easy. List the visible phenotype, and then require the DNA results be attached so the genotype is also known

Tell that to Lex! The only problem is he'd want APHA to issue a hair collection kit like they do DNA and charge you 50x the cost of having it done yourself. Can you tell Im PMS'ing????? Not a good combo when it's 109 outside.

In a perfect world a horse would be registered with a phenotype and genotype. However, we can't until there are more tests. In the meantime...

The Pinto registry should register toveros along with overos and tobianos. This horse is obviously a tovero and that should be desiginated on the papers.

Anyhoo... the horse in question should probably be listed as a tobiano under the current Pinto rules. And Acme is correct... this foal can't be registered as a Paint due to the sire being registered as a Pinto only.

Jet, my guess is that many breeds don't have Overos, therefore it's best to limit it to just Overo and Tobi. I don't think Pinto will put notes on their pedigrees like APHA does.

Thanks, I thought so, but it never hurts to ask!

Tobiano. If white crosses the spine (back) it is tobiano.
