Question To trade? Or not to trade? (Please opinions welcomed!)

I've been trying to sell my walking horse for awhile. She's 19, registered, black, 14'3... and she's really broke. Goes anywhere. Yada yada. She's a good girl. I have two young mares I'm working with and just don't have the time. I was asking 1300 but would take 1000.

Anyway, A friend of ours just got a young horse who is WAY to much for her. Her dad said he would not get a horse older than 10, and all kinds of mess. Well, he learned his lesson and he admits it. This boy is 5, he's gorgous. Registed paint. He happens to be from the same people I got my paint mare from. I trust them, they are very honest and good. Chip is the horses name (don't know registed name). My sister rode him a few times while I was looking at Princess (my mare.) He was super calm and willing, but green. Walk/trot/canter with no buck or anything. Not spooky or anything like that. The woman said he was the one she put beginners on and has only bucked once since they've had him. (2 years, I think).

Now.. knowing that I'd say heck yeah. BUT, my sister went to ride him at Caseys (the friends) house yesterday and he bucked, then rared up and took off bucking across the highway. Bucking violently. Something had to be hurting or really bothering him. My sister said it came out of nowhere. No one has been back on him, but from the few times I've seen him this is NOT the same horse. Part of what could have caused the behavior was he went from a large pasture with grass getting fed once a day with other horses to a small pasture, getting fed twice a day and no grass or other horses. He was rode twice before with no problems at his new home. He did kick Caseys dad once, not sure why and he's been a pill.

Casey is scared of him and so is her father. They are mad at who sold him to them, but I really trust they had NO idea. Casey's father called them and yelled at Chip's old owner today. She called us upset... but they are ok with the idea of us taking him to resell or even just to work with. They have lots of respect for us and if we say there's something wrong they'll trust us...

So I am planing on trading for a little while... Its a definent no if he rares again. UNLESS there is a fixable back problem or something that hurts him. Otherwise, NO horse that rares will stay here. If I get him it will to be to turn around and sell again...

From what I've tried to explain what do ya'll think? When he comes here I'll probably have the vet out if he cuts up any like that. If he doesn't... then I guess I'm thinking about trading. I think Chip would be ALOT easier to sell for a little bit more. Also, I think that Crystal (my horse) would be a great beginner horse for Casey. And of course if she's not I'll take her back.

So... Ideas on anything?

This is Crystal..

And this is Chip from a couple of months ago when I was looking at Princess... My sister rode him english, he usually rides western. This is the frist time ever with an english saddle on. He neck reins, turns on his haunches, etc... Not great pics.. but here they are. He also has some SUPER movements at the trot.

Sorry its long.. thanks for bearing with me if you did. Lol.

It scares me that he is being direct reined in a curb.
That was just a one time right?

If you can fix the paint, he would be a good trade, and you could make some money on him....he probably has learned to bully his new owners, smart green horses have a way of doing that....Cathy

If you are willing for maybe a little bit of a handful then heck I'd do it.

If you can handle it money wise and everything........then all you can do is at least try it.

Good Luck with whatever you decide!

I would do it. just see how it goes for a month or so. It sounds like everyone would be happy, the horses too.

rears.. sorry. I guess we are going to try the trade thing. Going tomorrow to pick up Chip and drop off Crystal. I think they actually offered to give me Chip, lol. They are really afraid of him. We went to trade today but it was dark by the time we went to load him and we didn't push him to much. So we will just get him tomorrow. So I guess its just a wait and see game. The lady who sold me my paint and Chip to Casey also offered us her other two horses and just pay her 1000 for both of them WHEN we sold one... so.. wow... lol. I have NO idea what we are going to do. We're thinking about it.. its just that we've been trying to get rid of some! LOL! And now all these horses are falling in our lap. We are going to wait to see what goes with Chip and go from there. I don't think I can take Crystal back, keep Chip and then also get two others. Just to many!! But we'll see.

Hmm well that sounds like an awesome deal.........you are basically getting three horses for $1000. LOL Well, that's if you get the other two.

Well now you have me all excited........tell me about the other two.

Good Luck, by the way, with picking him up tomorrow!
