To ride, or not to ride after an accident?

Say you were in some kind of accident either on your horse, or off. Let's say the results were so bad your doctor EXTREMELY advised you to keep from riding until you've fully healed, or else your condition would get worse and you'd never ride again. What would you do? Ride, or not ride?

I always thought, "Nothing will EVER keep me from riding! Even if it hurts me more! " But lately I've realized how important riding is to me and that if I could never ride again, I'd be SO UPSET. So I figure if I ever get hurt that bad, I'll lay off riding so I can ride AFTER that and never worry about getting hurt more from riding out of spite while injured. See what I'm saying? LOL ... anyways, what about you? How would cope - ride, or not ride?

Well I guess if it meant never riding again, I would not take that chance. I find great satisfaction just hanging out with all my 'babies'. And then it would be "Look out world!!!!" when I could ride again. lol.

Listen to the doctor.... I'd rather "play it safe" for a while, and then start riding rather than not listen, get even MORE hurt, and then never ride.

stay off. i'd rather not ride for a while than ride and possibly prevent myself from ever riding again.

Stay off if it is that serious. I have been in that position, and I chose not to be paralyzed. Really, there are more important things in life than simply riding through pain.

Honestly, it depends.

I was told in 1995, I'd never ride horses again.

I was told in 1996 after my first MRI I'd never ride horses again.

FINALLY I found a therapist that agreed with me. If it doesn't hurt, makes it feel better, then RIDE!!!!

I never took docs advice except one thing. If it hurt, don't do it or modify it.

For 2 years, I did ride with a back brace. (And broke horses...SHHHHHH doc didn't know that part).

I took many precautions most of the time. But at 18, I didn't want my life to be over. They said I wasn't bad enough to do surgery, so I said then I am not bad enough not to ride.

Again, it depends totally on the issue.

Initially when I first got hurt, I didn't ride. I stayed off for a while. But I truely did not come back from my back injury till I started riding again. PT didn't do much of anything, riding did EVERYTHING for my back and the muscles.

lets make this easy...

Say 2 more months of painful riding, then nothing
or 2 months of nothing, and years of pain free riding later

lol there ya go I pick the second one
