Whats the temperature like where you are? Maybe a hunter clip would work out...shes so fuzzy that a trace or blanket clip might look funny
If you are worried about the fly sheets warming them up, maybe just try spraying them with fly spray daily and put a fly mask on them.
But I think if you clip them when you are using the fly sheet they should be alright.

I am not a huge fan of clipping. Especially if you have terrible flies, etc. The hair they have does give them some protection against those pesky bugs.

There are some really nice lightweight fly sheets out there. I use them on my horses. I'll bet this site has some, if not try valley vet or country supply or your local tack shop.

I do have one of my guys who is even longer haired than yours. The sheet does make him hot, so I don't use one on him. I just might try clipping him ( I know I am not a fan...but I feel bad for him in the summer) but not all the way, I will leave a bit of hair to give him protection.

I use a spray for bugs as well, I spray the pasture and the stalls....also use a Pryhanna spray on the horses. Does seem to help a bit. I don't think anything works 100%.

Anyhow, hope that helps in your decision process.

I keep a fly sheet on 24/7 and my horses never get over heated. It's breathable, so it's not like a blanket.

Where are you located? In all honest, your horse's coat doesn't look healthy. If it is thick, then you would be doing her a favor by fully clipping her. And, you need to address what's making her look unthrify.

Fly sheets come in many different materials. Because they are mesh, they allow air circulation. A light colored sheet on a dark horse can actually help keep them cooler. I have left them on 24x7 before with no ill effects. The biggest thing, as with leaving anything on constantly, is checking all the time for rubs and adjusting leg/tail straps as necessary.

Rio,
She just got Cass 11 days ago. She has been making every effort to care for her. Even joining HGS to get advice from all the great people, I so often talk about.
Cass actually called me after she read your post and felt really bad. Like she wasnt doing enough. Hmm Only so much a human can do in 11 days
Cassanova isnt unhealthy looking in person. While she does have alot of hair. Most horses around here do. We get some pretty cold weather here in Utah. As has been said many times before on this forum. Pics dont always do justice.

That's good to hear I'm sorry if my post came off in the wrong way, but sometimes people don't think there is something wrong when there is. Since you only just got her (didn't know that ) then just take what I said with a grain of salt

As long as she is with another horse so that they can stand head-to-tail to swat flies off of each other, I would personally just try to leave her...of course, I also don't blanket my horses at ALL unless it is the night before a show (if I even do then!), so that's why I would choose natural. I would rather spray them with fly spray once or twice a day rather than clip them and worry about a fly sheet.
