If she wants a colored black horse, the only way to absolutely guarantee that is to breed to a homozygous black, E/E a/a, homozygous tobiano. Not really any other way to guarantee that But I'm sure you knew that Mary!

EE aa TOTO doesnt even guarantee color. It guarantees the tobiano gene but their is no guaranteeing that you will get a patterned horse.

99% of the time you will get a patterned horse from that though so basically guaranteed, but not quite.

Check this out... http://www.homozygouspainthorses.com/ You need a stallion that is Homozygous for Black and Homozygous for Tobiano and tested negative for LWO.
Just thought I would bring this up for the OP since this does have a listing of several horses that will produce the colored offspring wanted. As RMT said nothing guarantees the amount of white or color... but often there are things you can do to insure a good colored healthy foal. My foremost concern would be to eliminate the possibility of a LWO offspring and then make sure that the mare does not get fescue poisoning in the last trimester she is in foal.

you have all been a great help. thank you all. the reson none of her foals have been registered is that the stallions aren't APHA approved.
