I said that based on pedigree. Did you look at the pedigree?

Based on the pedigree what would you test for JB?

I looked at her pedigree too Mary and that of her dam (where any Tobi would be coming from as you know) and not one of the foals she's had has been Tobi, so I'd be safe thinking she's just Overo.

I dont think you missed anything Haas. I believe JB was just pointing out that just because a sire and dam are registered as "overo" doesnt mean they cant hide tobiano.

What does this have to do with the OP's horse? I thought this was what the thread was about... not other color patterns but what patterns are that the Op's horse has and what she needs to do to get a black and white colored offspring?

I dont know if it has anything to do with the OPs but with general knowledge. Someone may not know that overo could cover a tobiano pattern, or someone reading may not know that a registered color is not always the correct one.

We got onto the topic about what pattern she and then her parents who were registered as overo, but before looking at the pedigree could have been hiding tobiano. I think it is a fine place to put the information out that overo that loud could easily cover a tobiano pattern. Its called helping someone learn and there is no improper place for learning.

But in this case the OP's horse does not have the Tobiano gene and the only test for tobiano can be done is for homozygousity... which we know for a fact that the OP's horse cannot be.

So to put this thread back on topic, RMT what should the OP do to get what she wants in an offspring?

Well gee, sorry, I was going based on what you said - parents were both registered overo. Period. We have a mare here who is almost all white. What's to say, based on ONLY that parental information, that they too couldn't have been mostly white and hiding any visible Tobi? Nothing. That is why I made my comment.
