| Senior Member+ | Is that just how she's registered, or is that how she is genetically tested, and if so, what exactly does the test say?

| Senior Member+ | If you're reallyreally set on getting black, then it would broaden your choices of stallions if you test your mare and find she's homozygous black. That allows you to choose stallions who are either Ee or EE. If she's not, or you don't test, you'll have to limit yourself to an EE stallion, GREATLY reducing your choices of suitable sires.

| Senior Member+ | I'm just trying to figure this out... if her mare had a sorrel baby... could she still be homozygous and the stud she was bred to wasn't?

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | For black? No she cant be if she had a chestnut. Completely missed whhere she said that. Her mare is Ee so you need an EE aa stallion to guarantee black if your mare is black and not bay.

| Senior Member+ | Thanks! I think I get it now... If she was then her foals could only be black, bay or buckskin?

| Senior Member+ | Found the information... the sire and dam are both black overo so there is no reason to test for tobiano. Not there... I would bet that she is sabino and frame. None of her offspring have been registered with APHA. EYES WHITE FEATHER - 1999 BLACK Overo Mare 00508223 Check this out... http://www.homozygouspainthorses.com/ You need a stallion that is Homozygous for Black and Homozygous for Tobiano and tested negative for LWO. |
