I know exactly how you feel. I love my horses, and every aspect of them, too. I did get lucky and have a beautiful baby, but there were some scary moments! I spent the day and the day after he was born bawling my eyes out over all the things that went wrong.

Like someone else said, you can find a good, reliable pony to buy, or breed, spends as much if not more, and end up with nothing.

The trick is to wait and look, and don't get ahead of yourself. All things happen for a reason, and if you are patient and talk to people and read ads diligently, I bet it would take you long to find a pony for much cheaper than that! Remember, for children, older horses are most often BETTER. A horse that has been there done that? You can't go wrong for the most part.

I have had a total of ten horses in my life. No, none of them were breeding quality, which is fine with me, but they are or have been sound, sane horses. I have a total price tag of $1200. Yup, that is right, a TOTAL.

Cheap, good horses are out there, you just have to dig for them!

I have one other pony that cost $500. He is as old as methusela but has been great for the kids as he is truly bombproof. Given us many hours of happy trailriding. Just worried my 11 year old son is getting to heavy for him. But maybe this new pony of mine will in time come good.

How big is the pony? They can comfortably carry 20 to 25% of their own body weight if they are sound.
