A good price should be the goal. If you can't get a decent price for a foal, it is just not worth all the fees and time and money for vet care and suppliments and what ever else is needed to have a mare foal out. If you spend $1,500 or more to bring the foal into the world and can only get $500, what is the point. If you don't think you can get a good price for a foal, why bother. That is what I am saying.

MyBabyTex, her neck isn't too great...

Here is the best confo. shot I have of her... It is an older pic from when I first bought her.

She is very cute! But yeah, her neck looks ewed to me.

But really, if you just want a foal for yourself go for it. But make sure you PLAN what you want to happen with the foal. You would never want it to end up at the slaughterhouse, not the offspring of your precious mare!

she looks to have a very weak neck. maybe she needs more muscle or its just how her neck is built.

and her hind leg looks funny(outside leg) maybe its just the way she's standing or thats how both are.

but if you were to breed you would need to find a stud that had impecable confo to help her in her weeknesses

her pasterns are not ideal i dont think and her chest area seems very weak also.

if you are going to keep the foal and KNOW you will keep the foal then you can breed if you want. but look for the PERFECT stud

thats just my opinion. but your mare is super cute!!!

Lucky Duck...Honestly, I'd skip her as a breeding prospect. She has some issues that could pass to the foal that, as shell sees it, would decrease the foal's price dramatically.

Such as the neck not tying in clean, her loin/croup/back...something about it just nags me at this second,....I'll figure it out....and her shoulder being VERY steep. She sits under herself with her front legs...

Honestly, she would not be something I would spend much money on herself.....if we want to look at it financially, so I wouldn't expect, even with an impeckable stallion, for her to bring a foal with high price tag attached.

Unless your mare has an AWESOME show career...then you MIGHT MIGHT consider it..but if not, I'd avoid it by her conformation.

May I make the suggestion of getting some RECENT GOOD photos of your mare and then post them here?
Some nice clear ones of her standing correctly with nothing in the background or blocking the front to prevent us from getting a good clear view of your mare.
When I see the first photos you posted and then this other one it is obvious that the mare has done a lot of filling out and growing. I think better photos of her, side view front and back would be more helpful than tossing up an old photo of her.
Look in the breed magazines or websites to get a idea of how the mare should be standing and the photos should be taken.

LuckyDuck....Here is a stallion that I think would nick well with your mare!
I think their build are quiet similar and would complement each other:

Thanks everyone, for your input.

I'll see if I can get some better, recent photos of her in the Spring (I think her winter fuzziness would cover any flaws) She was really out of shape when I bought her... the guy who owned her had left her out to pasture for a few year because he said she was a bad horse.

I plan to keep her foal forever, but my biggest concern was what would happen if I had to sell my horses... I already have a horse that I know due to his build is not worth much to anyone but me.

She reminds me a lot of a QH mare I just sold. I think she's very pretty & if you find a stud with a nice neck, then you stand a CHANCE of getting a foal with a nice neck. The one Sandra A-1 posted looks like he would compliment your mare very well.
