Anyone got any tips or tricks you've learned through your experience with horses. Anything you can think of or would make someone say "Hey, thats a wicked good idea I'm gona try that" You can even include exersizes you've come up with while riding.

Hmmm..weeeelll...let me think...it's kind of hard to think of any because even if they're my own little things that I do, I've been doing them for so long that they just seem like routine. I'll have to get back to you on that....

We have trained our horses to stand outside the stall while we place the hay and grain inside, then they wait till we are right out of the stall and say "ok" then they go in.

I find it a really good thing to do, it teaches them patience and it is nicer then getting stomped on! lol..

One of the best tricks I ever heard and now use is the applesauce in a syringe to get your horse used to wormer. I always struggled with wormer, but after I started doing that, they all look for the syringe, so when it's time to worm, it's simple. Except for Shotgun, because he doesn't like anything that you could put into a syringe.

What a wicked good idea! I'll have to try that with Isabella. Or I could just cross tie her. lol

This is not very exciting but effective:

If your horse is bad at moving forward when you enter his stable dont "push" him back just give him a "poke" in the chest with your index finger and say "back". They move back with no pressure then and after a few times all you need to do is point at their chest and say "back" and they move back without even being touched

Okay, here is one for forum members who jump and have their own jumps at home....this is a good time to post it and you will quickly see why....

Be on the look out for people tossing out (or you can check the thrift and second hand shops ) their old artificial green christmas trees. The branches can be used to make brush jumps with. You know stuff them into the wooden frames... Just make sure you cut the wire tips off that go into the wooden tree stand so they can't scrap or cut your horse.
Since the style of artificial Christmas trees are changing and more and more people are buying the new pre-lite trees you can still find the old un-lit ones that they are getting rid of out by the curb on trash pick up days or even in the second hand and thrift shops for under 10 dollars!
The branches make great brush jumps because they can stay outside and you can hose them off when they get real dusty. If you take good care of them they will last you for years!

So there is my tip...a cheap way to have professional looking easy to care for brush jumps!

does your horse go for his hay net while your still tying it and rip your fingers off?? I tought my mare to stand in her box away from me till i put up the hay net then i say ok.

I find riding for the first ten mins with out stirups helps me relax and then im not so stiff.
I cant think of any other things at the min if i do ill post some more
