I didnt see where it states he was a vet? There is no such qualification as an "equine dentist". Dentist is the shorthad term for a person with a degree Doctor of Dental surgery(DDS).
Sophisticated dental procedures are designated by the state as the responisbility of a licensed vet.
If your horse is insured, most equine medical insurance companies will not cover claims for injury, illness, or death resulting from treatment by a non-licensed or illegally practicing individual.
You might want to find out if this person is a licensed vet before you let him treat your horse.

Hi website says he is NFU approved and fully insured. I don't know what NFU is though
You could contact him and ask for references and then contact them. That is the true test. Ask them what they think of him and if they know others that he has worked for. Also, ask him how long he has been practicing, ask other dentists and/or vets in your area if they know about him and his work.
It's worth looking into though Good luck

anyone that has those procedures done without sedation - and i notice hes using the word WITHOUT - in large print- means he is not a vet- would you have your mouth worked on with no sedation? its a six week course to be a dentist- any nitwit can do it - you are better off with a vet that specialises in dentistry. You will be paying to Hear that your horses teeth are done , but you wont know will you .... because you can not see whats been done like you can a farrier doing feet- so you cant disprove or prove whats been done and what hasnt. Use a vet- and be there to see whats done . its the only way you will know for sure. the horse has to be sedated to get the job done right.

Wow Dallas, you came on a tad bit strongly with your opinion didn't you?
She was just asking what we thought Is it a 6 week course everywhere? Maybe Australia has a different course or doesn't require it.

Anyway, I beg to differ - you do not have to use sedation to get the job done right. My vet used to come and float my horses teeth and he never needed to sedate to float. My new teeth guy is not a vet nor a dentist but is VERY good with an ear twitch and VERY fast and my horses were clueless. (and not ear shy afterwards either) He also is not a specialist, though I had heard of his good reputation beforehand. That is why we use him now, because our vet is a large and small animal vet and it takes a long time to get in to him with routine stuff

n i agree they do not need to be sedated i would actually prefere it if my horses didnt have to be

also in the u.k dentistry is a profession they do not need to be vets for this there are many very qualified equine dentists - i dunno how it works over in the states?
