Thoughts on saddle: Stubben Edelweiss

Im looking for a jumping saddle, and came across this saddle. Thoughts? I have limited experience with Stubben, and none with this particular saddle.

Its only been used one season, and looks to have been very well cared for(always a plus).

How do Stubben's run size wise? Its a 16.5" seat, which my trainer says I am. It is a 31cm medium tree, while Iv been looking for a medium-wide, or wide...

They want $900, is that reasonable? Im pretty sure they are open to offers.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!

I love, love, love my stubben. It is quite old and has had a lot of use. Unfortunately it's out of commision for me until I get some work done on the billets. It's a very old Siegfried model.

As for the Edelweiss. I've never ridden in one that I know of (might have and just didn't realize it). The biggest thing to be aware of is that the new ones are not constructed as great as the old ones were (as with most saddles). But they're still good saddles. It retails new for about $1400-1500, so the price appears to be about right. They do have a shorter panel though, so be aware of that.

Dawn, if you don't have a saddle repair person in mind, I have a FANTASTIC certified saddler I can recommend! I had a Parzival (Stubben) that came back BETTER then new!

Really? That's the main reason I've not had it done. I have no one to do it! It really needs to be reflocked as well and a couple of stitches resewn (nothing functional, just cosmetic).

The one thing I think Stubben really has going against it is: the rear of the channel is barely 2 fingers wide, and the bare minimun recommended is a full 3 or more. The back of the Stubben's do not allow for "proper" vertabra spread/clearance, UNLESS the new ones have changed. They have built their saddles way too narrow for decades and people use them regardless. Just something to keep in mind, as to how it relates to the horse.

I've never noticed mine being narrow, and it is definately an older one. I mean it's not one that you look at and go 'my goodness that is huge'. But it definately does not look small either.

Oh too funny, my posts keep disappearing, found them under the saddle picture. LOL Anyways: Run your fingers down the channel length. I have yet to make it past a tight 2 by the rear. The horse's spine should have more open space to each side, the rear of these sets right on the very edge, so if you are even SLIGHTLY off the saddle will be on the spine.

I was looking for an older model of stubben, pessoa, etc but came accross this one and figured it was worth a second look. I havent heard many good things about new saddles, so Im wary.
