| Senior Member+ | I have a friend whose mare will foal one year, skip the immediate breeding season while the foal is nursing, then get preg. the following year. They have a stallion they keep in the pasture with her during breeding season. He has no trouble catching other mares who are put in with him. But this mare has consistently done this for the past 6 years. (She's had three foals total) Is there a special reason why she does this?

There a mare that i use to work with that can only be bred every other year. i'm not sure why but that's how she is.
