It doesnt thin out the entire mane, just the bottom section where you use the scissors. Having just the bottom thinned helps the mane lay better while still having a bit of body. So yes a you can do this to a thin mane because it's just the bottom not the whole mane

Ohhhh yeahhhhh....right, so if I STILL need to thin out some sections, I still have to pull them I guess ...There really isn't any way around the pulling if you have a super-thick mane. Luckily I only have about a 5 inches of neck that is growing in super-thick - the rest should do fine with just the thinning shears.

THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!...... this will REALLY help me, but for starters i have a few questions....Robin's mane is fairly long(6 or 7 inches) and it has to go down to about i think 4 inches to braid in knots for english, so should i wack it all off with the thinning shears, or cut it off a few inches first with the regular scisors??

also, i have a bit of a nosey question.....i'm new and would like to know if you work at the farm that you use for all your demos(i've seen the clipping one) or if you own the horses....and whats the farm name....thanks!!!

You can do it either way, but I would go ahead and start with the thinning shears. That way it gives you a few inches to practice on and get the feel of the shears and the technique.

I run the farm where I do all the demos, it's just me, the guy who cleans the stalls and the owners daughter who do everything. The name of the farm is Sheriff Stock Farm.

Lou-sure you can have her, she's for sale
