Things to do on the ground

SO seeing as my company horse sox cannot be ridden due to a back issue, i still want to be able to handle him and do things with him so he isnt left in a paddock to stiffen up completely....

i know ground work things such as flexing, lunging, backing, moving hindquarts blah blah blah, but for something different what are some excersises i can do on the ground for his interest.

I dont think the people that had him before did much ground work with him at all so ill start with the basics cos i have to get his head soft first.

Anyway any ideas would be great

Teach him some tricks - becareful of his back tho, and consider this when you incorporate them. I.E. No bowing/laying down/sitting/etc..

Stretches .. I know someones horse who can stretch (leg, neck, what ever) on command Note: make sure your horse is warmed up some before commencing stretches.

You could teach him to weave cones with no lead, do some 'free rein' work (he walks next to you, etc). Horse toys, walks out on the roads, in water, etc ..
