Calm down everyone. This is what the owner posted a while back: well for all of you new marestarers i guess i should give you guys a debriefing like i did last year for the newcomers..foaling a clyde is not like foaling out a lite breed..they do not follow 123 rule..sometimes it takes them longer to stand than 1 hour ,longer to nurse than2 hour and longer to clean than 3 hour...so do not freak if by your watch the foal is not doing the normal 123..these guys are bigger clumsier and sometimes bless there big ole hearts dumb..belle is a great mommy and she knows what to do..i do not tie up the placenta...it hangs till she passes it..last year she did not clean till the 6 hour mark ..doc came out and dosed her with oxytocin and helped her pass it..so please no posts about the placenta...also sometimes these guys come out and they can not nurse so we have to milk out the mare and pan feed baby till it can nurse on its own..we also administer seramune to the foal for precautionary reasons...and we also do enema a bit after the foal is nursing and moving around...we do temp checks..so do not panic if you see us doing things to belle and baby or speculate a problem i will be giving play by play to dianne and she will post my current status on belle and foal...just be patient for the updates...also i was asked earlier in the week about cam status..marestare is giving us the option to have them pull the plug ,we pull the plug,or just let the camera roll if there seems to be an issue with mare or foal in a bad way..i pondered that very much and i decided that no matter what keep the cameras going..i feel that there is so much to learn wether it is a good outcome or bad...we always wish for the best but sometimes mother nature has a different plan...and in the event is goes the wrong way if there is one moment that helps someone else later on it is imperative that we learn from others..there are alot of textbook foalings and then there are those that go bad and go bad fast and watching some of these farms do all they can sometimes gets you thru that rough spot and all is well, and then there are those that no matter what it just wasn't meant to be..imy heart goes out to all those farms that had angel foals or mares..they should be commended not ridiculed because they did something different than what you or i would have done..and we should be VERY THANKFUL that we are blessed with the opportunity to be a part of these farms and there circles of life..i will get off my soap box now but i just felt i needed to put that out there..and with that said i wish all of you a grand touch of the heart in allowing us the priveledge of sharing belle's beautiful new foal into this world ..come on GEORGIA the world is waiting....... So, they are doing to the baby what they said they would be doing. Looked to me like they were tubing the baby to get colostrum in.

I can't believe that the stinker had that baby the one time I wasn't checking. Ah well! Glad everything went okay. :-)

Thanks for the information. I am new to foaling(had my first this year and is was much quicker and she was a maiden) and have never seen a draft breed deliver so this information is very helpful in understanding what is occuring.

Thanks spotteddrafter for posting that Tracey debriefed us last year when Heartbutt was born, and then gave us the rundown again this year. Nothing to be alarmed about, it's just normal for these big horses to require a little extra help.
