Then and Now

I don't post here much. I mainly lurk but wanted to share some pictures of my boy Brave. He is a 5 year old AQHA gelding. He needed some groceries and had rain rot when I got him. He has turned out to be a sweetie and so much fun to ride.

This was when I first got him.

This was taking yesterday.

This was yesterday Brave and his buddy Darth.

Last one taken yesterday Brave and Darth.

I have a horse that was worse than that when i got him. What do you feed them to get them fattened up so quick? we've had zoey for 6 months and she looks like she only added like 20 or 30 lbs and is still pretty skinny. Please let me know what to feed her to get her fattened up so she is suitable for my 240 lb brother to ride =p lol he recently was in a car accident and has broken back. He has to wear a brace and can't ride my horse, (she's VERY wild). I tried riding her yesterday. I'm 13. I weigh 94 lbs. That horse is 100 times bigger than me. Of course, I tried to ride her. She was fine untill I got halfway on. Then the bucking started. Soooo. Yeah lol zoey doesn't even move anyways. And I really want to teach my big bro how to ride. So please tell me anything you know to get her fattened up as quickly as posible.
Thank you sooo much. =D

Oh, and one more thing, my apaloosa is getting a small patch of rain rot on her rump. Is there something I can put on that to get it to heal? It looks funny, and I'd like it gone =p

Good Job on this one... He Looks great - Good Job GOD BLESS

Oh for rain rot.... 60% water 40% mouth wash spray spot untill good and soaked, skip a day & do it again, this kills the fungus and lets it lift off the skin, next day wash with t-gel shampoo, Repeat if needed.

Have a good one

Thanks everyone.

I used MTG to clear up his rain rot but prefer to use Listerine mouthwash mixed with water like StormyFlica suggested. I like to use the brown Listerine. Brave just had it so bad over his whole back it wasn't clearing his up so I used MTG. If you do use MTG you have to be careful with it. Test it on a small spot on your horse first to be sure he/she doesn't have an allergic reaction to it and be sure to put it on at night only.

As for feeding. Go slow it does take time for them to gain back there weight. Have you wormed your horse ? I keep hay (orchard/ timothy) in front of my boy at all times when he is stalled. Then he gets out everyday all day and eats grass. As far as grain goes my boy eats grain that is mixed here by a local feed store it has no molasses's an is 13% protein. Sorry I am not more help with the grain. I am sure there are others on here that would be more help with grains. He gets Omega horseshine on top his grain as well.
