What's that mean?

In Europe they eat horse meat. Some horses are bred just for that purpose. It is quite expensive and usually only available in top restaurants.

Then again in Europe, when I was there, they also eat true veal, which is the unborn calf of a cow. So they have quite different eating habits to those in Australia and possibly USA!!

Stunning looking animals aren't they? There were lots of breeds of horse and dog and cattle etc almost or actually wiped out in Europe during the WWI and WWII era's, we breed one of the canine breeds - Lowchen. They were once listed as the rarest breed of dog in the world!!

What ever happened to 'Chargers' - that was an actual breed of horse as well, used for Jousting and such.

Beautiful breed, must cost a fortune to feed though.. I'll never get this one past my hubby, so I'll continue to breed TB's....wish I could help.

Chargers/coursers, the jousting horses, SO cool. So would this breed be the Destriers, the war horses?

For those who think that Draft breeds like the Boulonnais are too expensive to feed and maintain....there are several "light horse" & Pony breeds on the ALBC's critical and threatened list: American Livestock Breeds Conservancy - Conservation Priority List

Actually I think a TB might cost more to feed than these fellows. Quite often these larger boned horses take less maintenance than the TB type of animal that burns more energy keeping warm etc. TB's are thin skinned whereas these breeds have a thicker skin and therefore lose less energy just keeping warm.

Additionally TB's are often more highly strung so waste energy daily by getting hot etc, these large breeds are often more placid and don't bother with the antics of other breeds.

JMHO.
