Tennesse Walker?

I have fallen in love with a horse that is one and I was wondering about peoples experience with them.

I have done some reading and they are said to be very kind etc...

And the price ranges are not bad.

It this a good first horse?

You would have to give us a whole lot more info on the horse as well as yourself.

TWs are usually good first horses in terms of being smart, patient and very good on the trails. However, they are gaited, so whether or not this horse would be good for you would depend on what you want to do. If you just want to trail ride or show TWs,...I would say yes, but do tell us more about the horse.

Actually, I have not found a horse yet. I fell in love with one that's at my daughters riding stable. He's 4 years old and huge. He's not for sale. I was asking about the breed in general.

I would be looking for an older one. Not for showing just trail riding. It would also be my first horse. I understand when the time comes to get a horse, I may not have a lot of choice as far as breed goes but one that would be best for me and older.

Since you want to trail ride, a TW would be a good choice. My first horse was actually a TW. She was great on the trails - lots of horse sense, lots of endurance. She could get a little hot, though, so make sure, if you buy a TW, that it isn't overly energetic.

I would see if you could ride the TW at your daughters riding stable, or find one you could try out. They are awesome and I have 2 right now and one that is a PWHR (Part walker) I love the way they move. But I also love my AQHA's so, I have the best of both worlds at the moment.

TW's are awesome, but watch the bloodlines, certain lines make them bred hotter.. You want something that's not bred over hot, if you want a trail mount... I had a Handshaker/Mack K mare, and she like every other one bred like her was a wee bit too hot for trails.. just like my new horse is Handshaker/Mack K he's alittle to hot for trails, but is awesomely gaited.

My Ebony Masterpiece/Midnight Ike horse is an amazing trail AND show horse. Brains and temperment are all him.. my Carbon Copy/Masterpiece filly who is 1/4 QH is also just like him on trails!

TW in general is good, but the hot show bred ones can be tricky for first time owners... try to find something proven on trails, and you should be good!
