Teeth Floating

Do you get you're horses teeth floated?

If you do, how often? And, do you have a vet or a trained equine dentist do it?

I had Moni's done once in the almost 7 years I had her...Shiloh has never had hers done. Farrier/Dentist says she doesnt need it. Andy I want to have his checked next time, cuz he eats his food wicked slow.

I really dont have them on any schedule...just whenever they need them done.

Up until 2 years ago, I always had the vet do the floating. I never knew there was such a thing as an equine dentist. Now I only use the equine dentist. Vet will check, but I follow through with the dentist.

I do. Buddy's has only been done once (thank goodness) since I've only owned him less than a year, but it's good to at least get it checked once a year or more often if the horse is 5 or under or so.

I had my old mare done last year and that is only because she is stabled now and doesn't graze.. grazing tends to keep the teeth in check. I haven't had my gelding done yet since he is only 3 and still has baby teeth.

What I find amusing is my equine dentist says their teeth are fine, that they are grinding and thats whats important and so on and they dont need to be done and then the vet will glance and go "oh yea they need to be done". I think they're just in it for the money. lol

They did this with Moni when she was sick. I had the dentist check her teeth because I thought that might be part of her weight problem..he said they were fine. Vet checked them and said they needed to be done. Uh huh ok lol
