Well if pull-on boots are really contoured in the ankle, I would imagine it would be a lot harder for you to get your foot through when putting them on and off It makes sense, but it does SUCK!

I soooo agree. I wish they didn't make the ankle part of the boot so huge.

What's funny is that my Ariat tall foots w/ out zippers are more snug in the ankle and look pretty nice and my other field boots with the zippers are gigantic in the ankle but nice everywhere else. Maybe it depends on the brand?

I don't think they look too bad at all if you are just using them for schooling and the occasional show! I wouldn't stress over it at all, Shannon. I think when you are mounted it will hardly be noticeable unless someone is REALLY looking that they aren't a great fit.

Some tall field boots have a really fitted ankle. They can do that because the lacing comes up high enough

Thanks so much for your thoughts guys. I REALLY can't decide what I want to do....Keep these or buy new ones. I have $150 credit at Dover that I was either going to use to get a nicer turnout blanket or get nicer tall boots, but I can't pick!

My horse is currently in a box stall with a McAllister 100gm turnout, a fleece sheet, and a thick cotton sheet. The McAllister does not fit her well at ALL, but she's only wearing it in a 12x12 so it's not as if she is walking around and getting rubbed, etc. I think the blanket is just hideous but it's not affecting her Plus, she's leased by someone else for the next nine months anyway.

I just can't decide!

^^ You leased Mariah??!???!??? Does that mean no more Shannon riding photos/threads???

If I were in your exact perdicament, I'd keep those boots and get the blanket for my pony, however I'm overly well know for "making due without" for my self, but ensuring my horse has the best of what I can afford........check back in a few of my threads, you'll see my horrible fitting boots. Alas, they were a gift from my daddy & I was brought up to never look a gift horse in the mouth

Shannon... the one thought I had today was this, If you're gonna be picky about how boots fit, don't buy Devon-Aire Mine never fit perfect, they never will... if you want something to fit just right, you're gonna have to spend some time looking and then some money to get something nice. just a thought

A little update...I got the Hamptons today (Dover called me when they processed the Ovations I sent back while I was at work, and I was kind of put on the spot as to what I was exchanging them for so I just got the boots ) and they seem a lot better. They are the 8 Slims and are obviously a little bigger in the foot but that will be better for thicker socks LOL. The calf is muuuch smaller and they are definitely TALLER. They are just a hair short of covering my kneecap, but since they're so tall I can't quite zip them up all the way. They're really stiff in the ankle, so they should drop. Is that normal though?

Thanks
