Talk to me about showing with ponies and not having a pony club

in AZ we only have one pony club for the state. it is a good 3 hour plus drive from my house. my friend purchased a pony and two mini's and asked if jade wanted to show him. he is about 40" tall. can we show at reg. local shows with a pony. she really wants to do halter with him. along with leadline. i figure leadline she will be fine but what about halter? the internet had a few clubs listed around me but they are not around anymore. just the STAR pony club. any thoughts. oh and is showing a pony halter same rules as reg. halter. do i need to clip him and pull the mane. or do we leave it shaggy and long. he has his forelock down to his nose.

All of our local saddle clubs have pony classes...and you can show the ponies in the horse class if you want. I would also look into a 4-H club that is horse-oriented as a possibility, as there should be one closer to you than three hours

We can in our regular saddle club shows that don't have a pony division for a certain class -- ie. we have a pony pleasure, but not a pony walk-trot. We can also show ponies in regular classes in 4-H if the competitor is too old to show in the pony classes (in our county, only juniors can show ponies to give them a better chance and to keep the competetion from becoming too tough for the ones just starting out) but the pony can only be shown in either the pony classes or the horse classes -- not both.

I don't know if its like this in all areas...but its worth checking out

Here there are pony classes as well as horse in most halter shows, or it is an open class--open to all horses, regardless of breed or height, and there are also often pony riding classes, or they are open.
I also encourage you to look into 4-H for Jade, we've been involved for several years, and its an awesome program!
