Tail wrapping/bagging heavy tail

Well, Cevia's tail almost reaches the ground and I have been meaning to bag it or wrap it for the winter. I don't want mud and snow to get in it. Luckily we have not had snow yet but we are supposed to get some on friday.

Problem is her tail is extremely heavy (she is part Friesian and inherited her daddy's hair) and I am worried about the bag or wrap falling out because of the weight hair.
Here is a pic of the tail (excuse her mule-ish expression)

Anyone else have experience caring for a heavy tail?

I don't pesonally know how to wrap a tail, but if you do a search on here there are many, many, many threads that pertain to this subject and a lot of them have "how to" instructions with pictures. I read about one way were you braid the tail and each individual section of the tail is wrapped and them you fold the end into the top of the braid and then wrap that. It looks like it could hold for a really long time, most of the people from the thread I read that from kept theirs in for a month or longer.

I would wrap it in sheeting. You can keep any weight of tail in this way and it will work well. I usually take my horse's out once a month or so.

Try using the three tube bag (or even four tubes and doing a four-plait braid, ask me how) I had okay luck last year with getting extra ties and tying around, through, and through the other way to get the sleeves to stay in, but then I read (on here) about using zip ties and they work FANTASTIC! You can slide the sleeve up, do one little knot, then put a zip tie around the top of the sleeve very tight, and it stays in without breaking hair. I usully do 2 or 3 zip ties down the tail bad as well and have been leaving the braid in up to one month without having to reattach.

From experience bagging a horse with a black tail. Make sure that the bag is 100% waterproof. I had a tail that was braided and wrapped in vetwrap. I was removing and replacing the wrapping every week. Sometime during the week he managed to get his tail wet with urine soaked mud (I suppose) because his tail had bleached sections to it when I removed the wraps a week later. His brother, who's tail was left unwrapped looked super by the end of winter.

Ive used mudknots, and tail bags. Skips tail is near what your horses is. Right now Im just using an old sock, and removing, conditioning, and putting a clean one on once a week. Ive had decent luck and hardly any breakage. Ive been meaning to go back to a mudknot, but I keep on procrastinating.

I would use a tail bag, if you tie it in right then it won't matter the weight of the tail.

With my Friesian mare who has a huge tail I use the three tube bags and braid them all together. Her tail is so thick it wont all even braid into one braid. Seems to do fine.
