tail rubbing

Our new horse Saturday is rubbing his tail on the butt bar of the new trailer. He is wearing a part of his hair away. Do you think wrapping the part that rubs on the butt bar would help?? Any other ideas??

Might help a little, but even rubbing on a cushioned surface will create friction. What will fix the problem is actually wrapping the top of the tail before you load. My gelding rides on his hiney in the trailer so he absolutely has to have his tail wrapped unless I want tons of broken hairs.

You can use a neoprene wrap or even just an ace bandage or polo wrap. You can't beat country supply's price on tail wraps: http://www.horse.com/products/gift-0__sku-BHV05.html

Has your horse been wormed lately...sometimes they rub when that needs to be done....try lanolin on their tails...its a conditioner and it works great on their tails.

i would apply a tail bandage when hes in thier also i would get some foam to go on the bar that can move so it will go with the tail when rubing rather than against

Put a bandage on it and then when you bring him into his stall or w/e then put on ''main and tail'' protector or something?? But its like a healer and protecter thingy..i dunno.. i have it but i forget the name.lol.

I have the neoprene tail wrap from Country Supply, works great! Alot of horses lean on the butt barr in the trailers......makes for a bad hair day when you get to your destination!
