Tail Loss

Dad's horse is losing his tail and we don't know why. He's not rubbing and worms aren't the issue. Any ideas on why a tail might begin falling out? This summer has been a little more humid than we're used to, but other than that there are no changes to diet, living conditions, etc that we can think of. Ideas?

Chronic selenium toxicity is a possibility depending on where in Kansas you are and also on what feeds and supplements you are giving. Is he loosing his mane too? Poor hoof quality?

I would call your vet and see if he recommends testing selenium levels.
