![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Tail braiding for Hunters
Does anyone know how to braid tails for the hunter ring? Or could send me to a sight or book that explains it step by step. No one around here (where I live) seems to know how to braid the tail. Pictures would be great too. Thanks!!!

I don't know what kind of horse you have, but arabian hunters do NOT pull their tails, they braid them. I am well experienced at it, but can not explain it well. Unfortunatly I don't know a website either. : (

In the UK you would not show an arab in a hunter class it is too fine to be shown as a hunter - the best hunters are probably Irish Draft x TBs -we are having a cultural difference here - lol

remember though if you pull the tail you have to keep it up as it will look like a pom pom ball if you want to grow it out

That's too funny! Here in Michigan, at the arabian shows, Hunter is one of the biggest classes! hehehe Hey, ems, here is a site to purchase a tape on how to: http://www.snowcrest.net/hawkeye2/ho...deo/700138.htm |

lol - I am just thinking what my heavy hunter type would look like beside your arab - he would look like an elephant!!! My heavy hunter is a 17.1hh Irish Draft - he is huge in height and in bone |

All of the Shows I attend, the majority of the horses tails are braided. Though there are a few who cross over from dressage that are pulled and/or banged. I just figured it was about time I bothered learning.

It's not hard ems, just need to do it once and you'll get it! Try just attending a show where your not going to show and ASK someone if you can watch while they braid. Most people would be happy to show you how! Good luck!

My hunter arabian is 16.1 in his bare feet with bone to spare : ) (and yes... he's purebred). When I met my husband and told him that I owned an arabian stallion he thought to himself (oh, whoopee, a tiny arabian stallion). Then I took him to see him!! His eyes got really big and he said "Da-mn darlin', that's a man's horse!!" (he's from Kentucky), I replied, "no....that's MY horse" !! hehehehe
