If your going to be taking it out that often i'd probably use a tail bag. It's better for summer too so she can stills wat the flies. You could use a braided tail wrap w/ vet wrap(I'm assuming this is the wrap that is all rolled up) with strands of binder twine out the bottom as a fake tail so she can still swat flies.

so braided tail wrap? then he can still swat the flys cause if i just a vet wrap then he won't be able to get any of the bugs off of him in the summer time. But I will only be taking it out on Thursday, friday for about 4-5 hourse and sat and sun all day, so should i go with a tail bag?

Well, if you braid it and roll it up and wrap it with vet wrap it takes longer, cost more (u need new vet wrap everytime) and it sometimes harder to get out. A tail bag would be better if your taking it out often, since all you have to do it slip it on and off, you can reuse it, and u can wash his tail and it doesn't necessarily have to be completely dry before u put it back in the bag ( to braid n wrap it...has to be completely dry).

i guess that didn't answer your question, lol. Yes, braided tail wrap or tail bag would be fine since they are both the same thing. I do not suggest braid and vet wrap.

A lot of people told me that the tail bags just fall right out in the field and you end up searching for them. I'd reccomend the braided tail wraps from what I heard.

When using the Vet Wrap...It is possible to leave some hair out to swat flies with, or to even wrap in something such as a few pieces of hay string/twine for the horse to use as a fly swatter.
Just because you use vet wrap to protect the tail while it grows, does not mean that you HAVE to wrap ALL of the hair and not leave a few strands of sufficent length out for the horse to take advantage of when it swishes it wrapped tail. ...
I prefer Vet Wrap type wraps because I can leave the tail up longer with out having to worry about it coming out or down, and the tail getting soiled, wet, gunky or sour. I guess that I have used it so often that I do not have a problem getting it off. One snip in the right place with the sissors and it then slides right off.

Just keep in mind that there is no way to actually "thicken up" a tail. To do that you would either have to grow more hair folicles or start protecting the hairs that are already broken far up on the tail. Timmy tail is long, but very thin. So I keep his wrapped in a braided tail bag, to protect what little tail he has. I like for him to be able to use his tail for the reason he was given it...to swat at insects. So if your horse is going to be turned out, I would either use the braided type, or make sure you keep fly spray on him if you go with the bag. I leave Timmys in for a week, by then is has slid down and needs to be reapplied.

The braided wrap I used didn't stay in. So now, I don't use one.
My horse lived in a shed outside. Perhaps it would have stayed in better if he didn't have so much room to toss it around.
