Sweating Problem

I live in Australia, and at the moment, its about 30 degree celcius. But my thoroughbred sweats like crazy...If he is just standing in his paddock he will still be dripping. Is it normal for horses or thoroughbred to sweat heaps.

No, desn't sound right. Is there a blanket on him? Was he worked recently before the sweating begins?

Take a temperature!!

Is he weaving or pacing in place? That can get them pretty worked up and sweating. The first thing that comes to my mind would be to check for thyroid problems...*only because I had a Q.H. mare who would sweat like crazy..and when we rode her she was foamed up after about 10-15 mins. We had finally blood work done and she ended up being put on Thyro-L. Talk to your veterinarian. He/she will be able to evaluate your horse and do a panel if necessary.

He is acting like normal, no pacing or anything. I have no blanket one him.

Then I'd call a vet.

Ok, then hmm...how humid is it? Because if it is humid, that can cause them to sweat buckets....

Did he just start doing this or is this common for him? Is he lathered? Dripping with sweat would make me a little nervous..can you call and talk to a vet?

It is extremely humid, especially in the middle of the day. He has several shady trees, but not very often goes under them. Maybe its just the humidity. Thanks heaps.
