| Senior Member+ | I always scrape...I just figure it dries them off faster. And Ohio is always humid during the summer anyway.

| Senior Member | I always, always scrape. With the humidity we have down here, they teach you to bring a sweat scraper with you if you are going to even be riding enough for the horse to sweat, because it is so hard for the sweat to evaporate. I was once riding and saw a horse go down from being overheated. Apparently it had happed before, because everyone at the barn knew what to do... we scraped him off as someone called the vet, and sponged him off will cool water before scraping him a few more times. He got up just as the vet got there, and we were told he probably wouldn't have made it if his internal temperature had risen about two more degrees. Now all of us are paranoid about scraping anytime the horses get wet or sweaty. It probably wouldn't be so bad in a drier climate, but here we are lucky if a scraped horse dries in an hour... there is just so much humidity! |

| Senior Member+ | Since I am an endurance rider, I have to pay very close attention to the weather when I'm at a ride. If it's even a bit humid - I scrape as much off as possible. Dry dry heat such as in the hot desert rides, leave the water on and it evaporates faster, taking heat with it quickly. A lot of people make the mistake [at endurance rides] of just putting the water on with sponges and not scraping off [even using your hand helps instead of nothing] if it's humid because they figure it being water helps. Vets at the rides make a very big deal about this. |

| Senior Member+ | I scrape after horses have been washed, and after work I'll use a spray bottle of water and brush to brush out sweat, then use a scraper if I have to.
