I heard that if you don't scrape the excess water off then the horse cannot sweat????

My husband never scraped until I told him that I heard you have to. Now we scrape everytime we give them a bath.

It's also a plus, so they don't get so dirty when they roll around. Man, that makes me mad...you spend all that time getting them clean and pretty and then they go mess it all up.

the sweat is actually taking the heat away from the body... scrape it off so it can take away more heat!

Supposedly, in humid heat you are supposed to scrape excess water off. If it's dry heat you leave it on and it will evaporate taking heat with it. Kinda like when they sweat in heat. But if it's left on in humid heat it will act as an insulator.

I think I had a thread kinda like this a while ago. I read in a horsey magazine that it makes them hotter in humid weather so I asked and everyone else agreed with that I think....

I don't think thats a sweat scraper Teaka, it's a shedding blade... but if you were to use it, use the flat side.

These are sweat scrapers:
(this is the one I use)

***Yes, I scrape every time I give a bath. Actually, I squidgie... I have a rubber one. lol
