PS - beeswax on that saddle! That'll help sticky it up a bit!
Thanks so much- I am a proud mama!

And I will try the beeswax .

From the looks of things he has potential for at least 4'0", if not more. He's wonderful with his knees, the kind of form you'd like a jumper to have. Hes very quick with his front which is very forgiving of rider errors, it's also forgiving of distances and a sloppier frame.

The problem lies in his hind and back. He's hollowing his back over the jump which is causing him to drag his hind through it. I'd like to see him jumping with a more relaxed frame and more flexibility in the hind. He has a lovely stride so I don't doubt that he has potential to work through the problem but as it stands the way he carries hind hind over the jump requires a very precise ride.

The thing with jumpers is that they need to be solid with their form, meaning tight front and powerful hind. This allows the rider some room for error, say if the horse comes in long to the jump (which will likely happen at one time or another) the fact that he has such a solid form will allow him to jump it cleanly. A horse with a weaker hind/form will likely pull the rail.

All in all, he's lovely. I'd just like to see him carrying himself better and using his hind more effectively. If you're interested I'm sure the forum members will have a lot of exercises to help you develop him further. He's still young so theres still a lot of room for improvement.

Thanks so much!! I did get some suggestions from the other members- and I bought the 101 jumping exercises, which we will work on a lot over summer.

I am trying to work him more over oxers- will that help his hind end? I know it should at least help him round over the jumps.

He look so cuuuute. Every jump seems to solidify his confidence even more. I love how game he is for this jumping business. You can go so far with a horse with a good mind. I really think his form will come into it's own over time (not that it's got major malfunctions right now, he's just green).

Give him a kiss for me!

Thanks so much He does have a great mind- I have really gotten SO lucky in that respect. For all of his stubbornness he is so honest and reliable- I can even control him on the beach when other horses bolt past us!!

He has already shown a lot more potential than I expected-- I bought him just hoping that (on top of some dressage) I would be able to successfully get over a 3ft jump- period- as in by the time he was 10.

I will give him that kiss I have been so thrilled with him lately he has been getting tons!!
