Yes DEFINATELY! I used to have a paint horse I'd have to use sunscreen on or his poor muzzle would blister. I normally put it on in the morning and evening if it was going to be really sunny and hot. However, if its slightly cloudy you could probably get away with just once in the morning/early afternoon. And I just used regular sunscreen i'd use on myself, something around SPF 25+, especially if you can only get it on once a day =)

I bought a sunblock called "My Pony Sunblock" for my paint gelding. And so far it has worked great on his face. As for what to use on the body and mane/tail I am not so sure about that.

Im buying Quic Screen its a spray on sunscreen to keep from coat fading. When I start using it I will let ya know the results.

Sometimes on the pink of Skips muzzle I use some sunblock to keep him from burning. Just apply a little bit in the morning and then hes fine til the next day.

Im glad I dont have a bald face horse anymore. My old paint had to have his entire muzzle covered in sunblock to keep him from getting sunburnt.

We just looked at carrying that! The other sunscreen we use and LOVE is Healthy Hair Care's Sunflower Sunscreen. Perfect for overall body use!

The spray on types work best for keeping the coat clean.
You can use human ones and they work fine, but the oil based ones will leave your horse all nasty and can glop up and cause skin to come off if not wiped off daily.
The spray ons do not build up on the coat. You just have to use a fine mist and then pour some on a mit and rub it around the eyes and face. The sport ones are best as they don't run and are not greasy.
If you are just protecting skin on the muzzle, straight zinc oxide works, but again, you have to clean it off daily or the skin will peel.
