You can either use something made for horses or humans. You usually get a better deal buying stuff for people.

When Skin So soft came out with a summer version w/ SPF in it, the saddle shop couldn't keep it in stock. One lady raved it was the first year her poor Appy didn't get his nose sunburnt.

I just put Nivea stuff on Barley and Hector, works perfectly! I think you should just try some different ones out, see which one works best. I have never had any problems with human sunscreens but just be careful incase your horse does have an allergic reaction to it.

Desitin works for my horses... it heals (if they have sunburn) and protects them from getting sunburn.....
