Suede Half Chaps-- Cleaning?

So, I just bought a pair of rather cheap suede half-chaps, (I just need them to last till my birthday, in July) and they don't say on the package whether they are washable or not. No cleaning instructions whatsoever. Some sort of plain suede Ovations. So, I was wondering how you guys clean your half-chaps? If any of you have suede, or ovations, that would be reeeeally helpful. The only thing I see on them is a little tag that has what looks like a tub with a 40 degrees symbol. Does someone know what that means? (arg, I feel dumb =[) Thanks!

(I guessed on the forum section, and searched before hand, couldn't find any threads like it. Sorry if there are ones.)

I wash mine in cold water and hang them up. Been doing it for years and never had any problems.

the 40 and the tub means wash in cold water.

I recomend getting Leather Therapy Laundry Wash. You can wash leather articles in this laundry wash and it does a good job. If you half chaps are black then you will want to wash with other black articles if you are combining other items in the load. In other words dont wash your 1/2 chaps with beige other light breeches that have leather seats. They will turn black. I usualy washed stuff like that by hand in woollite or Murphys' (I dont recommend that) but that was before Leather laundry wash was made.

We have always washed them outside and then hang them up to dry.

If you will be around to watch them you can tumble for a short period to get the excess water out of them on low in the dryer, I am talking about 10 minutes on delicate or so, then hang them out in the fresh air, out of direct sun.
Then once dry, tumble for 5 minutes in the dryer again, no heat, to soften them up if they dried stiff. If you have fringe, you wouldn't want to do this, just normal half chaps is what we are talking about here.
