Okay I have a pretty stupid question... but I guess we never know unless we ask.  I notice a lot of people on here asking for show names. So do you get to just make up and use whatever name you like even if someone else has that name for their horse or how does that go? I've only done barrel racing and AQHA stuff where I use my horses registered name. I think thats kind of neat though b/c I have a horse that I don't like her registered name one bit but I'm kind of stuck w/ it...LOL. So again, sorry for the stupid question but humor me a bit. hah

As long as she has not aquired any points you can change her reg. name for a fee with AQHA.

But to answer your question, as long has it's not a "breed" show, you can use any name. I knew some one that changed names almost every show.

I use my gelding's registered name as his show name because most people know him by his barn name. It's fun to watch the announcer try to say Dothan's Boy. Prince was just too easy to put down. Right though, if it is a breed show, use reg. name, if it isn't, it doesn't matter if you call your horse Whoopidytoo the III. hah <small>[ April 08, 2004, 11:13 AM: Message edited by: HorseCrazy1981 ]</small> |

I'm about to sell my QH as soon as she's done shedding (she's a dapple buckskin) so I'm not worried about changing the name. Thanks everyone for indulging me on that question! AQHA1972, I live in east Texas near Dallas.
