Just thought I'd add: When another member and I bred our mares, or at least attempted to , the ranch we kept them at had a TINY little chestnut arab mare who was one of the most classic sabinos I've seen: white above her front knees and hocks, small belly spot, wide blaze over chin, etc. I think we saw her with her second foal by a Friesian stud: SOLID black/brown colt. He also got her cowhocks too But that's another story.

Jessica - do you give lessons? I usually take lessons with my regular trainer but she's so busy right now with her job.

EXACTLY! Sounds like the mare probably had splash though, but your point still stands.

LOL, not to bring the other discussions into this thread, but I don't think she was splash. Brown eyes, blaze did not extend over eyes and ended at a point on her forehead rather than the horizontal splash-esque apron-face, and it also didn't extend outside of her nostrils before wrapping around under her jaw/lower lip. Her markings were all very jagged if I remember correctly too. That is what I would consider sabino, but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

If we're talking about black possibly suppressing white, I am definitely of this belief. In the same pasture as the arab mare and her Friesian cross colt was another chestnut sabino mare, this time a big old-style Hanoverian I believe. Tall whites, thick blaze, etc. She had a black-based (bay) filly with a nice little star and possibly one white pastern.

Yes, ACC, I got interested in it when I realized my mares are likely heterozygous splashes. Well, one is for certain. She has a blue eye and was tested negative for frame. I started looking for the cause and came across the "minimal splash white morgan" page that I love so much. It really opened my eyes to the splash white gene. Prior to that I had always thought of splash white as the classic "Gambling Man" markings. Now I know better. lol

Well this is exactly the reason why splash so often goes overlooked... the hallmarks you look for are not always present, especially not in the heterozygote. Of course you could start a new thread with her pics and I can see if I *see* it. (And show you what I am seeing.)

A really stunnng stallion.. I just love Duns, probably my favorite color besides dapple greys! I had a dun pony when I was a kid... I have TB's so no chance of getting that color unless I breed for it...

Sorry guys, I was horsin all weekend.

JetdecksComet:
Yes his sire has a website www.sunnybrookranch.com, name Slick Tation. He doesn't have much white and his dam was a steel grey (passed away) with not much white.
Also, if you would like me to send you foal announcements when the arraive PM me your email address and I will save it in my foal announcment list!

JESS!:
No I don't give lessons right now because I don't have time with the short days/daylight and weekends are busy with shows and I also breed, show and raise Weimaraners so if I'm not "horsin" then I'm "doggin" If you need some referrals for East County trainers I can give you some though!!! Just let me know what kind of riding.

I do have a Reminic and Mr. Gun Smoke Gr-daughter broodmare that is pretty flashy with big socks and a huge blaze so maybe they will have something pretty flashy. Thanks for all the info on the splash white stuff, it's very fun to read about and it shall be interesting come foaling season to see what comes out! I have 3 mares in foal to him that are all due the same week in March and I own them all so I will take lots of pictures.

I'm looking for...well, I'm not sure exactly. I'm mainly a gymkhana and endurance rider, but I'd love to eventually maybeeeee show my new mare Kandee in something, maybe reining? I'm not sure. I think I just want mainly "all-around" type of lessons. Not western pleasure - been there, done that years ago and not looking to get into that again.

I usually use Lynn Rivera, but she's been really busy with work and whatnot I think I just want to become an all around better rider and trainer.
