ok.....i wasnt sure where to put this, so i put it here. wasn't sure if this should go in horse health....but its not really a 'health problem' so...im not sure. mods....move if you think is appropriate. ok....well, minnie has always had these strange white scars on both fore legs ever since we have had her. the wierd thing is that they are at the same level on each leg and totally semetrical. and they are nearly dead straight lines....like she has been operated on....or SOMETHING? she also has little ones on the outside as well....also almost semetrical. its a long story....but minnie will sometimes (not very often anymore) go mysteriously lame....and we cannot find anything (or the vet) and then a couple of days later go completely sound (after be crippled just the night before) its strange. do you think that these scars could have anything to do with this? what do you think? pics:

Has she ever raced? They almost look like pinfiring marks to me, where the legs are purposefully scarred supposedly to help strengthen them and help ward off tendon injuries, mostly done on racehorses. The marks I'v seen have been tiny rows of spots, though, not a stripe like those. |

I was going to say pinfiring or maybe a accident in her past?

I was also wondering if it could be some sort of tendon surgery? It might explain the scars, they definately look like incisions. Do you know of her history at all?

thanx guys: well she is only part TB so i don't think she was raced. but you never know! shotgun you have a point: tendon surgery. when she is lame....it does look like something to do with the tendons.....but we THINK we have narrowed it down to be a nerve problem. maybe a trapped nerve. as for pinfiring: as i said, i dont THINK she was raced. her history: we know NOTHING, not a thing. we bought her as an 8 year old just shipped over from ireland 2 days earlier from a dealer.

| Senior Member+ | It doesn't look like pinfiring to me, pinfiring is usually a series of dots on both sides all the way down the tendon. It looks like she might have had surgery, one of our little foals had to have an operation to fix his contracted tendons and had scars similar to that |

We used to have a gelding that had weak tendons, he had scars in that same area, that's what made me think of tendon surgery. The vet went in and basically sliced the tendons lenghtwise, this caused them to heal stronger. This might be what happened to her. Who knows!!

I'm thinking maybe she got front feet tangled in a fence, cattlewire in particular, and got cut/s. Pinfiring scars look like organized beestings. Barbwire scars tend to be more jagged; Raps has one.
