Question straigtening a horse's mane?

My horse's mane is really bushy and lays all over both sides of his neck. It's a pain to brush out and will be impossible braid (haven't taken him to a show yet). Is there an easy way to straighten all his mane over to one side? Will just pulling it work?

Oh and I'm like brand new to doing pretty much anything of this nature, so please be easy on me

Welcome to the forum!

I like to braid the mane that is on the wrong side. The weight of the braid keeps it on the right side. Spray a good detangler in it, so it is easier to comb out. I also like the comb thru tail adhesive to keep the bushy and fly aways down.

Good luck! Cant wait to see pics of your guy

Here is a fantastic video on pulling a mane. If it's split in the middle then it may be hard to get it to lay right even after it is pulled short. You'll need to train it to one side first. You can use pasture braids for this or a mane tamer...

One tip with the pasture braids is to do them SUPER loose at the crest. That way, when the horse bends down to graze the braids don't pull and make them rub the braids out and break the hairs off real bad.
