The worst I've had is a defective Rambo sheet where all three stomach surcingles popped off the sheet and Mars ended up dragging it up to gate for the morning feeding.

And the semi-normal shoulder/chest rubs. My shoulder guards should be on the way. When I can afford it I'm wanting to try the Hug sheets and see how they do.

yes...I remember that story about the paint filly ...and I have known of others that have drowned in dams because of hoods twisting or flipping over the horses head etc..

A horse at the barn somehow got her hood over her head and hung herself or broke her neck on her feeder.

At my old barn one time, these two horses were playing together when turned out. One kept pawing at the other, then he got his leg stuck in the front of the other horses blanket. At first they hoped around trying to get loose, then calmed down, then somehow pulled loose. And then went back about their business. I don't think the blanket even ripped very much.
It was very strange to see: one horses leg up with his hoof against the others chest.

This wasn't my horse but one horse in the feild.

I was walking up the field to catch my pony and one of the horses, Buster, was stood there with a rug WRAPPED around his neck, caught up around his legs, wrapped around his tail and the poor thing was sweating cobs! I had to run over and get it off him! Bless him...

I went and told the owner and she said Buster didn't go out in a rug
Strange, as it was actually buckled on, not just thrown over him.

It must of been someone else, I know the owner doesn't put rugs on him, he is a very hardy horse.

I just think it was stupid and it made me upset and angry to see the poor helpless horse stood there unable to move or graze.

big dog

Ok so last winter I was putting the rug/coat on my 16.1hh mare. It was a very windy day and she had her back end towards an opening in the barn.
Before I could secure the straps around her legs a gust of wind blew the coat forward over her head, it was secured around the neck and belly. She tried to rear but couldnt see and then tried shaking her front end to get it off. Iwas standing very close to her with my back to a corner and could not get out.
The mad shaking did not loosen the coat so she resorted to spinning around like a reining horse, fast and whipping me with the flapping coat in the head and chest every time she got around. Each time I tried to yell that darn coat would slap me in the face again.
I was yelling for my kid in the next stall to help me. She looked over and asked me why I had her spinning around in the stall, stated I shold stop her and take off her coat, and then she said with attitude I'm grooming my horse right now and I have a test at school tomorrow so I have to get this done.
That kid did not consider that I was about to be smashed by a coat blinded horse at all.
So eventually I caught the coat and yanked it off the beast, both of us freaked out (the kid next door just oblivious to us).
Ridiculous. Those northern winds are he**.
Kids are fun.

I have a story but it isnt too bad. My gelding is used to his blankets and cant live without them most of the time. He gets beaten up so bad in the pasture and it seems that he doesnt as much if he has a blanket or sheet on.
When I first moved him to the stable he was so excited and him being a horse who loves to roll, had to roll in the pasture every chance he got (keep in mind, it was winter too.. hes nuts) I went out one night to find the inside of his hind leg swollen and bleeding with a puncture wound. I searched the pasture the next day, checked his stall.. everything and couldnt find a thing. Looked over his blanket and it ends up when he rolled he got the metal part of the leg strap with a hoof and jabbed it into his leg. Thankfully it healed fine but it still took a while and he still has a bit of tissue build up and a small scar.

Luckily I havent had anything really go wrong with any of my blankets. My App gets really bad rubs from his blankets (fly sheet esp.) and my two year old spooked and took of then jumped the pasture fence with his sheet halfway on. I was in the process of fastening everything when he spooked and bolted down the pasture and instead of turning at the end of the field he jumped a 4 1/2 foot barbed wire fence. This horse had never jumped and it was nearly dark so I was prepared for the worst but he didnt have a scratch on him and had only tore the bottom of his sheet about a foot. Can anyone say future jumper?!
