Well this is an issue I have mixed feelings on. I know it is horrible to think about but what would you rather have happen to your horse, get sold to someone who abuses and starves him, or someone who takes him to auction and he has a quick death?

the thing is... its not the abused horses that go to slaughter. The ones that do are the happy healthy ones (a little on the chubby side as well). The slaughter houses dont want to buy something that doesnt have any meat on there bones... they get more from the fatter ones

I agree with you. I used to feel that I was totally against horse slaughter until someone brought up the point of what would happen to those unwanted horses otherwise. It's a horrible way for a horse to die in either circumstance. I feel there need to be more placement and retraining organizations so that there aren't unwanted horses. Unfortunately those are expensive and time consuming. I also feel another thing that needs to be done is that people need to stop breeding so many horses. There are plenty of them out there already!!! Anyway, that is just my thought. I am against slaughter, because it's horrible and cruel, but you have to think about the abuse and suffering that would probably still happen to those horses. However, if there was not the easy option of shipping the horses off maybe people would think before breeding.....????

I think that its not that people need to stop breeding i think they need to be more selective with what they breed, start improving the quality of the horses so that they can have longer useful careers. I think all regestries need to aprove horses for them to be able to reproduce and be registerd. This way horses will have better conformation and hopefully stay sound and useful for longer so there are less horses that become useless and end up going to slaughter. I feel that stoping the slaughter of horses is not going to happen anytime soon but people in the horse world need to become more responsible with breeding.

Well...Its still so cruel, they DO NOT recive a quick painless death, i hve saw a video, they put like 80 horses in a small crampt van, they may stay in ther 4 100 hours, not stop. They are then dragged out by ther tails and legs. Next they are starved for about 2-3 days with no water, then they go into a little pen and hit over the head with a sledge hammer!! maybe upto 4 times, then the horse will cry out in pain, nxt they will hang the horse up by its legs and skin it. Now if tht is not cruel, what is. Horses are for life, not just for christmas!!! I am keeping my horses for life no matter what. Even if i can never ride again, they will neva get retired unless a permentet injury occurs. I am making a petition, and i know thousands of people who will sign, and hopefully us lot together, cn stop it NOW.

There are laws, regulations, etc.. about the things you just mentioned tourney. I agree that slaughter is horrible, but they are attempting to make it a little better.

flaming_ I can't beileve that anyone on this horse loving site would want to see them be slaughtered! Even if the horse is injured and so on it still deserves to spend its days out in the pasture. How could You waste and throw away a perfect life! I don't think that any animal should be wasted for dog kibble! I feel strongly on this! flaming_

bugsy, nobody said that they WANT horses slaughtered,
they just are looking at the bigger picture. its reality.
i HATE slaughter,i would rather see people killed than animals, but still...its reality.if slaughter does stop,it will def not be anytime soon.

and it must go on to keep the world in line money/food wise. they just need to find more humane ways of doing it.
