There is such a thing as normal gut sounds. Each horse has different sounds. If you hear repeated sounds in your horse on an everday basis she prolly just has a noisy tummy. I know my Tbred does...her stomach is always growling.
However if your horse has a normally quiet stomach and all of a sudden one day her stomach starts making an awful racket and she seems in pain..thats the time to call the vet.
Yours sounds like normal gut sounds though...if its on a regular basis that you hear them.
So no worries.

As long as she is showing no signs of colic, gut noises are normal. You would notice them more when you are tacking up because your're so close to her, when I groom Pic, I can hear his gut noises, I wonder like you, is he OK, but just keep my eye on him for a while, and as long as he's eating I pretty much know all is normal.

Stomach Noises are Excellent! Unless you have diarrhea, then you might have a problem.

WHen you DON"T hear noises, then you have a problem. Gut motility is essential to a horse's life!

Phew okay that makes me feel so much better..
When I was saddling Khizzy up and I heard her stomach making noises I just had this unexplainable bad feeling about it, luckily I don't have worry anymore!!
Thanks

I agree 100% with Blistering Winds. I was always told that no gut sounds will soon equal no horse if your not careful. Minumal or no gut sounds are usually my first clue that something is wrong. Gut sounds also help me decide when to call the vet on a colic. If there IS gut sounds I will treat the horse myself, but if gut sounds suddenly increase or STOP, or the horse appears to be in pain then I immediatly call the vet. I have caught 3 colics before the horse even showed pain by listening to gut sounds. But then again, now that my mare is 9 months pregnant her gut sounds are louder, but I think I am listeing to the baby move and not the gut sounds.

You're probably hearing her intestines rather than her stomach. You should be concerned if you don't hear any. Hearing them is a good sign. Frequently, you can hear their guts moving just by putting your ear upto their flank or occasionally just standing near the area.

If your horse collics (stomach kicking with hind foot, turning head to look at stomach, laying down constently, not pooping, or not eating,) there is no gut noise. Gut noises are our horses friends.
