Stirrups in the show ring, english of course

Yesterday I was part of a conversation where people were discussing what they were buying for their kid to hit the show ring with.

Stirrups came up. Chick has always ridden in the rings with safety irons. Like this. They are just that bit harder to get a boot caught in in case of a fall.

I do not believe she has ever been lowered in placings for them. They are legal for dressage as well.

Other people are going for the knife edge stirrups for the show ring because they don't think that safety stirrups are the right thing. (Read prettier)

Now I may be overly keen on safety equipment but tend to think it is there for a purpose and if it can help keep my kids a little safer then I am all for it.

Our little shows here are like your state fairs. Often the horse ring is next to the big noisy whooshy rides. They are good for horses to spook at and bolt and buck.

Is it full moon time again? Did the cereal truck overturn and fruitloops got spilt?

I showed in those type of stirrups for years. I was never marked down from it. I showed everything from schooling shows to a few A-rated shows.

Really? Why is that?

Back to Chick, I would definitely keep her in the safety stirrups. Those other mama's can put their kids at higher risk for the sake of fashion, but Chick can stand out far better with her riding ability's.

Showing here is all about look. Sadly in some cases it doesn't matter if you have the best horse and rider. They can be beaten by something prettier that bucks like a bronco.

If you want safety stirrups with the look of a regular fillis iron you could get these

A bit more expensive, but that way nobody would have any reason to mark you down over safety stirrups
