Ok I want to make some bags or something to cover my stirrups while rolled up so they wont scratch my saddle. They will have velcro at the top of the bag to fasten them on (hehe I'm recycling velcro from a pad's billet keepers as I always cut them off), just trying to figure out what type of material to use. Has anyone ever done/seen this?? What type of material should I use (thinking fleece or felt)?? |

thats a really great idea, I always worry about my stirrups messing up my nice saddle too. I would use fleece, personally. Or flannel. But fleece is nice and thick and cushion-y and easy to sew, too.

Hmm you just gave me a great idea when you said fleece! I have a pile of winter goodwill clothes and I know there are several fleece pullovers in there....maybe I'll use one of those! My trainer liked the idea too, so I'm gonna try to make her a pair also as she flips her stirrups over the seat. |

I am making a pair of these... I will have to 'draw' in paint for you. The way they are designed there doesn't need to be a fastener! Here it is - ![]() The way it is, is it's like two pockets, with a connector that lays over your seat. In my picture, the green is the fleece, the purple is the outer fabric. Can you see how it's folded back to make two pockets? Stick one iron in one side, fold the middle over your seat and tuck in the other iron.

Maybe you can get an idea from how these work: http://www.cashelcompany.com/Product...ProductID=9656 From my favorite company I always keep my stirrups down when on the saddle rack - don't run them up - but they have fleece covers on them too.

| Senior Member | Oh man I couldn't do that! It takes me about 30 mins to get mine back on if I take them off. The calfskin leather just doesn't slip right in! Hubby almost chewed me out for taking them off the last time I cleaned the saddle knowing he'd be the one that had to get them back on.
